Semantic web user interface

juin 21, 2007

One of the criticisms addressed to semantic web applications is that they are not enough user-oriented.

It is true that semantic web technologies are machine-oriented : they are based on models that explicitly encode the meaning of data so that machines can reason on them. This does not mean that semantic web applications can only be but machine-oriented too. On the opposite, we believe that semantic web technologies can be used to improve user experience. This is one of the goals of semantic web user interface research : using (machine-oriented) semantic web technologies to improve (user-centered) web applications and so to improve user experience.
